So, here is the big one: a 270 degree view of the Aletsch Glacier. I composed this stitched photo manually from 11 frames. How? I just made a sweep with the camera and shot at continuous shooting mode at 4 frames a second. So this whole thing took just over 2 seconds to shoot....no tripod required. The original stiched photo is over 12000 pix width, so I think I'll make a poster from this one and hang it on the wall. Anyway, please enjoy one of the most impressive views on our precious planet, I hope my image has done justice to the Aletsch Glacier. The Aletsch Glacier is the largest glacier in the Alps. It has a length of about 23 km and covers more than 120 square kilometres (more than 45 square miles) in the eastern Bernese Alps in the Swiss canton of Valais. The Aletsch Glacier is composed by three smaller glaciers converging at Concordia, where its thickness is estimated to be near 1 km. It then continues towards the Rhone valley before giving birth to the Massa river. The Aletsch Glacier is one of the most impressive features of the Swiss Alps. The whole area, including other glaciers was declared a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2001.

Very impressive shot, it looks like photographers paradise. I like the people that are dotted around this shot, they really add scale to the whole image. You've certainly done this place justice.
The continuous shooting is an interesting way of going about a panorama, I've never come across one shot in this way before. It certainly seems to work though.

Wow Paul, you have done justice to the Aletsch Glacier! I have never heard about a panorama being shot like this before, and it is truly amazing!

I love what you are showing us and I might never is it with my own eyes, but the way that you brought it to us is just spectacular. By putting the black on the top and bottom you not only fool the eye into thinking this panorama is wider that most, but you also made it desk top friendly by adding the black, now it is the right size. + Faves!

Very beautiful and impressive post(er) Paul. Glad you were teaching us a new technique, but there's a 'small' (please notice the inverted comma's) problem: I lack for the proper equipment, lol. Excellent work again.
Regards, Cornelius.

Hi Paul, This is on my desktop at work right now. It looks great on my dual monitors after I got rid of the black portion. May I suggest uploading such images without the black border in the future. This would help people find such good examples of "widescreen" images (using the dropdown box at the top of the gallery).

Paul, this is an incredible shot and I must apologize for the rest of the Caedesians for that poor c-index rating -- a 79 -- sheesh! In fact, disregard it altogether. It doesn't matter. If don't already know how to do QTVR you really should give it a try. This glacier would be an amazing place to shoot one. Imagine a 360-degree pass of this view! Thanks for submitting this jewel.
