So, here is the big one: a 270 degree view of the Aletsch Glacier. I composed this stitched photo manually from 11 frames. How? I just made a sweep with the camera and shot at continuous shooting mode at 4 frames a second. So this whole thing took just over 2 seconds to shoot....no tripod required. The original stiched photo is over 12000 pix width, so I think I'll make a poster from this one and hang it on the wall. Anyway, please enjoy one of the most impressive views on our precious planet, I hope my image has done justice to the Aletsch Glacier. The Aletsch Glacier is the largest glacier in the Alps. It has a length of about 23 km and covers more than 120 square kilometres (more than 45 square miles) in the eastern Bernese Alps in the Swiss canton of Valais. The Aletsch Glacier is composed by three smaller glaciers converging at Concordia, where its thickness is estimated to be near 1 km. It then continues towards the Rhone valley before giving birth to the Massa river. The Aletsch Glacier is one of the most impressive features of the Swiss Alps. The whole area, including other glaciers was declared a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2001.
