Alpenhorn are wooden horn from 3 ft to 12 ft (91 cm–3.7 m) long, sometimes curved slightly, with conical bore and a cup-shaped mouthpiece. They produces only the natural harmonics of the tube, slightly modified, however, by the material of the horn and its somewhat irregular shape. In Switzerland it is used to call cattle (ME?) and to entertain tourists (YOU?). The alphorn is carved from solid softwood, generally spruce but sometimes pine. I found those musicians in the Chateau de Chillon at the Geneva Lake.

Oh, I remember hearing those in the Alps, they sure have a wonderful sound. Those are really more then 3 feet, lol, more like 12.

How would you carry those around?

Your perspective makes the shot. Boy, you sure have to have a lot of "chops" to blow one of these horns!

I would love to hear these being played. I was listning to something on the radio the other night that said that these horns calm cows right down and they will herd around the player just listning to the music in a very docile way, not sure how true it was.

Gave this one a big rap in the vb, the radiating pattern of the horns and the all over sharpness is spot on.

Your composition is so good Paul. This is a fascinating image and one that I have saved on my harddrive as well as favorites folder.

The color is excellent, the clarity is crisp, and as usual, very high clarity.

I am especially impressed with the detail that is visible even on the stones behind the Alphorn layers!

Thank you for the look at something that I will probably never see in my lifetime.

Many thanks for sharing this with me!

I really like this picture, the clrity is great, and it's a really interesting subject. I wonder how different this picture would have looked if you had shot it from a lower angle. Thanx a stack for sharing.
