Now there is a nice name for these beautiful birds also known as Gruttos to me and Black-tailed Godwit to you. And to see the bird in a lake very near to my home while cycling home came as a big surprise to me. I never see them so I grabbed the camera and returned to shoot a photo with a nice low warm sun setting in the back. But that turned out to be near impossible since they don't allow you nearer then, say 50 yards. So what you see here is a very cropped down image at pixel level. Shot with my trusty Canon 5DMII and EF300mm lens. Some info on the birds: the species breeds in fens, lake edges, damp meadows, moorlands and bogs and uses estuaries, swamps and floods in winter. The world population is estimated to be 634,000 to 805,000 birds and is classified as Near Threatened.
