A waterfall in a city? How great is that (except for the individual trying to sleep right next to it)? What I find intriguing is the raised wooden canal running along the back of the buildings here. Near the middle of the photo is what appears to be a gate to open the canal up to receiving more water (right now it's closed and the water is being shunted off to the left, creating another, smaller waterfall). This is one of the things I've always enjoyed about many of your photos, Paul. They make me think and wonder, speculating on the reasons or uses of different elements in the photos. At my age, anything that can stimulate my brain to work is a good thing. Do you have any idea what that canal is for? As always, another great shot.

From a small iron bridge, near the St Laurents Church you can watch the spectacle of water cascades tumbling over rock, through the medieval half-timber and Baroque age houses. The steam of the Leukbach River originally flowed around the neighborhood today known as Niederleuken, which pooled in fish ponds where the early inhabitants could catch a meal and formed and moats of the Saarburg castle. In the 13th Century, to provide water for fighting fires which tended to ravage the wooden buildings of medieval town the stream was redirected through the town over the waterfall with the added benefit of powering the wheels of a flour mill. In 1657 the Hackenberger Mill was designated as the official mill of the Palatine Elector and today is the mill museum.

This is one of the reasons I love caedes as not only do we get to see some lovely art work, but also see parts of the world we wouldnt normally see. Also to find out about these places and wonder in awe! Great capture and you can imagine the roar of that waterfall too. Well done and thank you for the information.

I agree with Nik and Ann - with Nik as far as sleeping is concerned in a building with the waterfall next door LOL
And with Ann that this is very good reason to get stuck to Caedes despite any and all inconveniences [chiefly and hopefully the past ones] - to get a chance to see the unique qualities of the world that one would never be allowed to view otherwise.
THANK YOU, DEAR PAUL !!!!!!!!
Yours grateful,

Awesome everything! Tried to elect this for Arts Council voting but got an error message, sorry about that. Maybe it will work for someone else.
