Looks like sand flats at low tide to me, with some manipulation. If not then I really don't know.

There is no manipulation done to the image. This is the original.

The best description I can think for it is a globs of oil with glitter inside and it's globing up on top of the water....

Well, well any clues? Looks like a glass plate with glitter glue on it with alight shining through it from below. I know that's not right but may help;-)

Darryl, you are close enough, it is a macro of the side of a glass vase with a light shining through it from behind. The gold is part of the glass. The dark blue along the right side is the bottom of the vase. I bought the vase a few years ago, it was so beautiful I had to have it. I have a fondness for hand-blown glass bottles and stuff.
Good guess! Now get cracking on Narcissistic Love. LOL! :c)

That would make a nice still photo if the whole vase was visible and a blackened background. I like Mary guess on that image. Thanks for giving me that one Tom;-)

Mary only has part of the answer to that other image. There is a little more to it then the myth.

"Mysterious Material" does make a pretty cool desktop wallpaper though.

actually, the "gold" is minute flakes of copper suspended in the liquid glass before being manipulated into form and cooled. the copper-flecked glass material is known to glassmakers/collectors as Aventurine (not to be confused with the real thing). a very striking photo and a nice capture of this wonderful technique.
