I'm not afraid of being sick.
I'm more afraid of being well.
I'm not afraid to put the gun in my hand. I'm just afraid it will hurt like hurt like hell. ~

There's an emptiness inside her and she'd do anything to fill it in. Though it's red blood bleeding from her now, it's more like cold blue ice in her heart. She feels like kicking out all the windows and setting fire to this life. She could change everything about her using colors bold and bright, but all the colors mix together...to grey. ~*DaveMatthewsBand*~
WoW, we're having a thunderstorm here in Phoenix, and we have purple lightning also :) Great job capturing such an amazing part of nature! 10/10 and into favorites.. I'm hoping soon after this week when I get my new camera I can setup shop and get some lightning pictures also :) Amazing work :)
Agree with all above me here Tom. Also, was watching the path of the storms today on weather.com and noticed they have a section where you can post your photos for possible choice to be aired on the weather channel. <winking and strongly suggesting>
Thanks everyone, I have been going out with the camera to capture lightning every time a violent storm comes this way and I am finally getting some really good images.
bjb- Yeah, I have been watching the storms' paths also. Charley might head my way, Cape Canaveral, but it would be pretty weakened by the time it hit here after going across the state. I am glad I am no longer living in the Florida Keys, looks like the Keys might get hit by one side of the storm as it heads North.
Excellent capture Tom. I have been waiting for a good storm to get out and try capturing some lightning myself. I thoght Charley would bring some storms my way but we didn't even get a drop of rain from it as it cut across south of here. Do you find that you need to use a tripod for these shots (I noticed you used one for this shot)? I would think that lightning would be a lot like fireworks, where I use a short enough exposure that it works perfectly well as a hand-held shot at that distance. Then again I've never tried lightning so that's why I'm asking you :). It is my next goal to get some really good lightning shots but it seems I am always too busy with school when a storm comes around this way. Well great job again on this capture, gets a 10 from me.
This is amazing. Lightning is always nice to see photos of because it is so hard to catch. Harder than BUTTERFLIES!!!!!! Good job to you. This is excellent.
A sturdy tripod makes a difference for any night shots. The exposure time depends on the distance of the lightning, the ISO setting should be set to 200 or less. Digital cameras have a slight delay so it makes lightning harder to capture.. to work around that I use continous shot mode (it only saves the last 6 frames so it doesn't fill up the card fast).
But words are things, and a small drop of ink, falling, like dew, upon a thought produces that which makes thousands, perhaps millions think and smile.
Such a powerful shot! Looks like a "10" for timing... Was this a case of being in the wrong place at the right time? :-) ~Ouimon~ Geeez.. The sky is so purple too! Scary. We get a lot of heavy electrical storms in Minnesota too.. I unplug my modems and enjoy! Thanks for sharing this photo!
