There are only a handful of places in the U.S. where one can see millions of years of the prehistory of this planet at a single glance. Like the Badlands of western North Dakota, these east of Rapid City are a geologist's and paleontologist's dream. Good capture.
Great way of showing off the beauty of the land there tom. the fist time I was on a plateau, I turned in 360 degrees and saw nothing but Badlands in every direction. I cried, overcome with the beauty and awed at the same time.
good capture.....and thanks for the trip down memory lane.
To my favorites it goes!
Now this is my kind of shot! Being a geography teacher i live to see things like this and it was worth the wait. What a fantastic composition and contrast of colours. Just gave it a 10 in the VB and it deserves in. I had no idea South Dakota held such wonders.
He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the almighty. I will say of the Lord, "He is my refuge and my fortress, my God in whom i trust". Psalm 91: 1 and 2
As you know I was raised in SD and yes, there is a lot more to see there then people realize. You got an outstanding photo here! What a wonderful feeling it must have been to get this shot. It's odd, isn't it? to have the whole state nothing but plains, then you get to the Badlands and wham..then next are the Black Hills, they soften the blow. hehe. I miss that place, will have to go visit one day soon. You got a gorgeous photo. Great colours, just an awesome photo. Verena
