The original picture was a reject. The camera didn't focus on the open flower I was wanting to capture. But then I notice that some of the background was in focus, so I cropped out the unfocused part. The result was better than my original intention.

I like the colors Jeff; it looks like you had sun and shade there. If it is possible with your camera to turn off the auto focus so that you can bring the part of the image into focus that you want, it may help a lot. Also if you are able to control your aperture and set it to a lower number say maybe f3.5 to 4.5 that will make the background become out of focus thus drawing the viewers’ attention to the flower only.

All good points. I've been playing with my cellphone's camera. While I can set a macro (kind of manual focus), I sometimes lose it. I suspect I either lean while snapping the picture or bump the screen. I haven't found any aperture controls on this one. Have it in my main camera, but it doesn't fit in my pocket. :-)
