One walk took us by an old homestead. The house no longer stands, but the flowers planted still bloom. beside one tree I found a surprise lily just opened.

Lovely shot Jeff - my husband grew up in a rural area and remembers the surprise lilies.

Plantings left behind are sometimes called "anthropological shadows". If you spot a wall on a house that obviously once had a window in it (but they did a lousy job of filling in the space), that's called an "architectural shadow" by historical architects. Those long, curved stamen and the bokeh effect are particularly nice here, Jeff. I had never heard of surprise lilies before and so naturally had to Google them. I always like an image that makes me think or look further.
