While wandering a wildlife preserve, I spotted a butterfly and took several pictures, wondering why it didn't fly off. Then I realized it was dead and thought it was a strange place to get caught. It wasn't until I was processing the pictures that I realized that what I thought was a yellow bud was actually some critter who was eating the butterfly. I'm torn between fascination and "eewh!"

I pulled a copy and zoomed way in... it's a mantis; one I had as a pet in Japan ate the same way. I have to wonder if it finds more success in hunting when hanging out near flowers the same color as it is, fooling its prey the same way it fooled you. Life is like a box a choc'lits; yer never sure what you've got 'til you shot it.

If you've ever wanted to make a difference but found it hard to believe that one person could... check out the Kiva Team Caedes discussion thread and discover that anything is possible.

Thanks for identifying the critter, Nik. As I get older I'm finding I sometimes have to wait until I get home to find out what I saw.

I like the subdued luminance of this image Jeff, I'm partial to it myself.

Progress equals a trashed planet since mankind is too busy altering it. BTW find the classic definition of Caedes here. Enjoy yourself today (o: because you don't know what tomorrow may bring. DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO? . . . VOTE INDECISION!
