We get them along our Missouri River as well, Jeff, but I've only seen them as silhouettes from a distance--they never let me get close--or, as is often the case, I get close enough to use my 250mm but that's when I don't have my camera along. Although this one is partially backlit, there's still enough light (probably bouncing off rocks below the bird) to allow us to see all the necessary details. Nice.
