The view changes dramatically at the creek level. Funny ... at the base of the ladder, it doesn't seem nearly as far as from the top of the ladder.

That's an interesting construction for an oft-used ladder. The 2x4 treads are vertical so that shoes rest on an edge instead of a flat. Then again, I'm guessing that most people using this trail are wearing hiking boots, built to handle such surfaces without pain to the foot. This really is a cool trail, Jeff, shifting from woods to grottos to quiet ponds like this. It's like we're on the trail ourselves.
