Paddles stilled, we slid slowly by an island on which hundreds of juvenile Cormorants were working out their first flight maneuvres. The skeletal trees, long since barkless, formed a labrynth of stems on which the winded young birds perched like buds. Once the alarmed squawking and screeching died down, they studied us just as intently as we studied them. And so I snapped a pic.

Nicely silhouetted subject against that dark gray, moody sky. The clouds add interest to the background and help show off these neat nests.

I'm at a point now where I can recognise your work instantly, thanks to the unusual subject matter you invariably shoot.
I like the full-resolution of this image, which really strengthens the silhouette of the *'birdlettes', nests and tree against that Payne's Gray sky.
Very restful and the balance of this shot is perfect.
* Sorry - having a a senior moment - can't think what you call a young bird! :-(
