A new animal to me - I thought it looked rodent-like but now know better after reading your link :) I also suspect thhe 'water' may be what is mentioned as being used as a folk medicine remedy.

At first I thought this was a beaver-squirrel which are very common in the forested areas of Colorado. I wonder why animals do that.
