Once again the remarkable variety of life on this planet amazes me, this critter seemingly a combination of several equine-like species. My first thought was a large donkey of some kind, so I was close, my guess based on the large belly and short legs. My second thought, only briefly, was a mirror manip, your camera position being nearly perfect to achieve that naturally.

It is a privilege to see these animals Raj, given that they are now so rare. I like the name Hemione better though :) A splendid shot of them facing each other.
My thanks to all who leave comments for my work and to those of you who like one enough to make it a favourite. To touch just one person that way makes each image worthwhile. . . . . . . . . .. . . . "The question is not what you look at, but what you see" ~ Marcel Proust
A very fine photograph, Raj. By checking-out the link in your narrative a lot of information about the Onager was provided. Thanks for both of them. To me they have more the appearance of a donkey rather than a horse. I hope however that they don't have the stubbornness of a donkey but the nobleness of a horse, ☺ .

To me they do resemble more a donkey than a horse as well. Excellent info in your link and a well taken shot of an animal I don't believe I've seen before.
Looks like a cousin to the "Show Me State," mule Raj. I will need to brush up on my Onagerese if I want to find out why they don't want to be domesticated. Perfect pose you captured.
They sure are really nice and healthy fellows, really very interesting reading on the link with so many different types of asses. Really like the colour tones and detail of their markings and coats
