Lake Tekapo is a good place for an observatory, being relatively far away from other towns and cities (which cause light pollution) and having Mt Johns very close which serves as an excellent vantage point. We were rather annoyed to discover that the road is closed off at night (probably to increase numbers in their own expensive night tours) but it turned out to be a bright moonlit night so we couldn't see any stars anyway! This shot was actually taken early the next morning just before heading off on the final leg of our NZ journey.

More images and prints available in my Deviant art and Redbubble galleries.

Gorgeous view here, those awesome clouds and mountain tops. You took a magnificent photo Sam. And you're right, what a great place for an observatory, how sad it is closed at night. But at least you got to stay a while. The moon is good too. Verena

Light travels faster than sound. This is why some people appear bright until you hear them speak.
