Looking out over San Francisco bay (away from the city). What remains of the governor's residence is on the left. The ship is not a regular visitor according to the island staff so I guess I was lucky that it was passing by.
The Ruins if of the "Warden's Mansion"; not the Governor's. It was destroyed in a fire in the early '70's when a group of Indians took over the Island. The Warden & Family lived there & there were (I believe) 2 separate Buildings where the Guards & their Families lived. For 8 years, I passed by 'Alcatraz' in the distance; as I worked in the Marina District of S.F.
The reason why the sunsets in the evening is because it wants to see the sunrise in the morning. I rise in the morning because I want to see them both. RvdB
I had this in the voting booth and loved it. I didn't know it was Alcatraz. Isn't that just the most awesome place to visit. I've been out there 4 times (although not for a while). The view of SF is incredible. Great shot. You sure had a nice day (weatherwise).
