Yes, once again I poke my nose back into the world of Caedes. Was cleaning out my image gallery and was reminded of the site. So heres a little something I ran across. This is my go at Bird photography. I know its no where near as good as some of the bird pictures I've seen on here. But comments and critique are still much appreciated. Thanks for viewing.

Great capture and like the different textures and good lighting with shadows. He's giving you the eye.

There's an attractive quality to your image here, Chris.

Colour-wise and compositionally. (Initially, thought that was sand. Read on..)

Caveats?

Might have been tempted to either shift camera position .. some, and capture all of the bird's shadow. And in turn, effectively offsetting your subject some more from center.

Or..

Crop and do likewise. From the largest resolution size available, and not having the benefit of knowing if or what you did crop ... might be a possibility?

Given the apparent lighting conditions and setting ... handled things pretty well.

On this note, there is an excellent online article/tutorial that is centered on 'understanding your camera's histogram'. Found ... here, at Guides @ Nikonians.org.

As the details in the shadows of the bird's body are lost to a degree. You could try some editing/post processing to bring more detail out.

Like ... here ... via the Highlight/Shadow adjustment in Photoshop CS3. (Additionally a Curves adjustment was performed.)

Alllll that said.. as if you expected something .. ahem ... 'les's from moi..

Good good to see you back, bro. Keep shooting and happy shooting. :o)
