Starlings are very common birds in Britain - flocks of them can number in the tens of thousands, and the sight (and sound!) of them coming in to roost is unforgettable. But as single birds they're quite remarkable too - in the sunshine their "black" plumage flashes iridescent green and purple, and in winter they sport white spots, as modelled by this individual.

Very amazing clarity showing really neat feathers and patterns. I'm really jealous of this capture. ;^{ -- Outstanding and going in the Favs!

Starlings are quite common in the US, too, but I've never seen one spotted like this. Fantastic shot, Si, 10/10 by me!

We make a living by what we get; but we make a life by what we give.

wonderful! Beautiful picture, and this bird is just starting up a new song. Brings to mind how I often hear them in the towncentre, imitating everything they hear: gsm-ringtones, trams, cars, people talking.

Gorgeous bird! I have never seen a starling like this before. Here in South Africa we have the Red Winged Starling which is fairly common, and also the Indian Mynah (which is not actually indigenous) but is very very common, brought here by early settlers. Your starling looks so exotic to me, thanks for sharing:-)
