Taken while hiking along the Minnesota River, trying desperately to outrun the mosquitoes. I did not succeed. The break in the trees opens onto the river, which provided only temporary relief from the nasty critters. They simply waited with patience and glee for my inevitable return to the deeply wooded trail.

Steve - "The break in the trees leads opens onto the river, which provided only temporary relief from the nasty critters." But, as any photographer will do, in spite of the mosquitos, you stopped to capture the scene! With the strong contrast of lighting, you controlled it well. Thad

Nice effect with the shadowy "here" nicely balanced with the brightness of "out there". The light on the leaves really lifts the whole image adding the strongest colour element. It evoked for me the adventures as a boy playing hide and seek in such places or imagining myself as a goody hunting badies thru the forest. Very cool.

It is not "The powerful attack the weak." it is "The fearful attack what they fear."

They are a problem, but you were steady at the hand and managed to take a good photo. Beautiful silhouettes of the trees. Good lighting and colors. Good job Steve.

Steve
I have always loved these shots on the deep green forest floor with a path leading to sunshine. Nice greens with some sunlight lighting up those leaves.

Last night I lay in bed looking up at the stars in the sky and I thought to myself, where the heck is the ceiling.

Oh I hear you Steve, we have bad mosquitoes also in the spring through fall, but they're gone now

A marvelous image showing us the rich forest opening outward to the river, giving great depth to your post
