when it's on the runway it looks so ungainly like it would never get off the ground but in flight it makes for a beautiful image. never get tired of seeing that. thanks for posting a fitting end to the Discovery mission.

nice cheers for putting this up. by comparison to the 747 its always a bit worrying how unadvanced the space shuttle looks somtimes... :S

cool pic... did you know that the 747 has to refuel 4 times in that trip from cali to flordia just because of the weight and loss of areodynamics

I had never noticed the cone over the thrusters on the shuttle before. Have they always done it that way when it's returned via the 747, or is it relatively new?
The shuttle is really starting to show its age. Wish NASA would design and build a new, more modern one.
