Carol, I join Laura, Les, and Bob with their suggestion. To me it's a hair comb for keeping long hair in the styled position. Very apt entry however! Good Luck with it, my friend!

My thanks to all who leave comments for my work and to those of you who like one enough to make it a favourite. To touch just one person that way makes each image worthwhile. . . . . . . . . .. . . . "The question is not what you look at, but what you see" ~ Marcel Proust
An old hair comb, the swirling color was termed "tortoise shell", like the breed of cat. That shine tells me it's plastic and not carved wood. This type of comb was used mainly for holding hair in place at the top or back of the head.
Good luck in the contest, Carol (sorry... I just finished a 40-year career in history :o).

I, too, think it looks like a tortoise shell hair comb. But what fun would that guess be?
So ...
An ornate acupuncture implement? A sliding lid to a cricket cage? Very uniform, white stalagmites in a tortoise shell cave? A Mardi Gras mask? A fancy looming reed? A corn silk remover? (I'd buy one of those!) A decorative, feminine version of The Punisher's toothy skull logo? A new style, multi-pronged fork for the better capture of peas? A back scratcher? None of the above?
Most of you guessed right, it is a tortoise shell comb. I found it at a flee market and thought our daughter could use it. Took the photo first before handing it over to her. It was a fun contest!!
