Thanks Darryl. No they did not all make it. I think that about 3 got to Launceston and 3 got to Hobart (two races start together) out of about 40 entrants. Most turned back soon after the start, but had to wait 8 hours for the right tide back through the Heads.
As far as keeping the camera dry, I make sure the boat is not under power, when I have the camera out - when it is under power there is much more likely to be a wave/spray over the bow or side. I also have a big towel round my neck - much better than waterproof material, because the water stays in the towel and does not flow all over the place.

Wow I am almost sea sick just looking at this. A great shot. Do you have more as the normal photo is with small waves and blowing winds. This shows the power of nature in its fullest. Thanks for posting, (I'm dizzy).
