A most pleasing sight, Tom. I think you have an affinity for the shore, but who could blame you? I would be there all the time if I lived closer to it. There is a photoshop seminar in Boston on Oct. 3. I'll be there and Thad is going. It's not too late to sign up if you are interested in going too.

Tom, I can't believe how calm & placid the water is in your shots. Do you ever get anything more than a ripple there on a normal (not stormy) day? ...Ed

Beautiful work, Tom. I love your composition, and the colors and lighting are great. I love the boats, and would love to be out on one....even if it was just a row boat. LOL.

I bet it was so peaceful being there in the morning, lovely capture, I like how the sky and water are almost the same.

Tom, this is my first official critique of one of your postings; so I'll do my very best to write something that makes sense. You might have to read between the lines or cross most of them out, but somewhere in here you will find a critique.

First of all (actually I guess it's second of all after that first paragraph) I really like this shot. I like the colors and the tranquility. You've anchored the composition well with the foreground grasses and the buildings on the left. To tell you the truth, there's something about this shot that supersedes what I've supposedly learned about composition.

Why do I like this shot so much when it's practically one color? You can barely tell where the water stops and the sky starts. I was always told that you should minimize the amount of sky unless it adds drama to the shot. There's nothing very dramatic about the cirrus clouds, yet I still like the shot and the fact that over half the shot is basically negative space. The shot is well focused but is very sparsely populated with "stuff".

Basically I like this a bunch but am not sure why. I will check with my team of psychoanalysts and therapists and get back to you.

Thank You Roger , any critique I get is much appreciated.
I worked on five or six of these photos from this scene the other night and spent about an hour cropping etc.I almost pulled this off the site soon after posting for exactly the reasons that you mentioned. Besides that , I had a few that were much better and had the sky cropped down to a third or so.Not that any of them were great anyway and again for the reasons that you mentioned. I should have remembered my own rule , always wait and take time to preview the edits before posting. OK , please get back to me with the number of your team of psychoanalysts and therapists , I would like to chat with them too...Thank you much...Tom

The picture is pleasant and even by using a polar filter we can have quite same result.
Obviously you can crop the sky and apply the polar in post production only to the sky itself.
This may provide some more separation between the sky and sea. I sincerely suggest to test.
In my perspective, the photo is very well done and in a nutshell well managed.

For me there is something very inviting about the early hours along the shores or over water. Those moments when earth and sky still seem joined in night and are just starting to take on that light. You captured that slow peaceful mood.

Very beautiful landscape photography is wonderful! The boats are like floating in the water white birds... I'd like to "touch" this beautiful place...
