consider using the blur tool on the edges of things on their own layer (assuming you're using photoshop) .. this will help them look as though they are a part of the whole and not cut-outs ...
also .. in case you're not already .. try to work larger than your final size and then resize to your upload size .. this will provide some smoothing (ie = work @ 3200x2400 = resize to 1600x1200) ... it will also make it easier to sell larger prints of your work should you ever decide you're ready for that
