I think this is a wasp. Can't remember seeing a black and white one before. I liked the way it blended with the foliage.

Brian, a good close up of this bee or bug or whatever this flyer may be. He looks as though he is enjoying lunch on the the pretty flowers that have yet to open.

I agree with Connie's compliment to the photo. it really does stick out and a great shot in flight.

I believe this is a bald face hornet. they're more prevalent in the southern states but found as far north as Canada. I think this is the same insect that tag me in the arm this year while picking wild raspberry for jam. very aggressive they are! with a sting that will drop you to your knees, trust me on that one! i cant imagine getting it by 200 or 300 of them at one time.

very nice insect shot for a DT, thank you for sharing.
