Too bad the glaciers are gone :( Many Glacier Hotel is located in the northeastern part of Glacier National Park on the shores of Swiftcurrent Lake. It opened to the public on July 4, 1915 This secluded, five-story hotel contains 214 guest rooms within two large chalets offering lakeside, standard, and value accommodations. Quite frankly, it seems old and tired and needs a huge facelift. That's all!

All the paint is a little faded, I noticed that, too. There is actually the slowly shrinking remains of Grinnell Glacier, about 1,200 feet up a pass to your far right in this photo, beyond two small lakes chained to Swiftcurrent here, Lakes Josephine and Grinnell. You can hike up there and stick you feet in the uber-cold water. So, this shot being on the far side of the lake, did you hike, drive, or boat over here? When we were here in September of 2010 I was able to get only one photo. The wind was coming out of the divide, over your shoulder in this shot, at about 60-70 mph steady, and gusts of nearly 90 mph almost knocked me on my butt, tripod and all. The distant mountain behind the lodge is Wynn Mountain and the one on the right is one of the lower peaks of Allen Mountain. On the other side of that lower peak of Allen are a pair of tiny lakes called Falling Leaf Lake and Snow Moon Lake. :D I cheated. I have quad maps. 8P

This is such a lovely setting, it is too bad that the hotel is not being kept up to date, a true sign of the times, and changes in our weather. Tigs♥ =^..^=
