A lone Cottonwood tree stands amidst the Fern Ridge wetlands in Oregon. The tree is a popular eagle nesting location and was evidently important to Lewis and Clark as it was the preferred log for building canoes and other things.
There's something about your landscape shots, Gregory, that are instantly recognisable. I guess it's that lovely balance you achieve of composition, subject and colour, which always rests so easy on the eye. I especially love the 'triangle' formed by the stump, bush and tree. Straight onto my desktop with this one and another 10-out-of-10. Great stuff, Gregory!
Love the title. I believe you have posted several compositions from this one area and I have loved them all. The lighting is always superb. I like the grassess peeing up from out of the water and the tree stump gives the whole thing perspective. the ole "granddaddy standing tall in the rear is truly a winner.

All of your photos are breathtaking, this one included! The sky is alive with color as well as the background! Great job! Another 10/10 and thanks for in the history of the cottonwood tree ~ very interesting!

How serene, the lighting is perfect. Looks like a peaceful place to watch the sun rise and set. Most people say not to center the subject but it works well here. good work.
I would say that the tall tree is not the only subject. The stump in the foreground is inextricably tied to the cottonwood, making the subject a diagonal. Very strong and very well done.
