Very nice Al, my mother used to grow alot of thiswhen I lived over there, it seems to like the WA climate. I think though that it is called "Bouganvillia" (sp?) and it comes from Bouganville.
This name came from the french "Marquis de Bougainvillée" who felt in love with this plant when he was in Africa (or Madagascar, or something like that). He brought back many on his boat. But these plants live only under the mediterranean climate.
Nice pic Al :-)
Well, I did a bit of research and it looks like it is spelt "Bougainvillea".
Like all foreign words that are used in English there are many spellings. Anyway it is still a beautiful plant, however it's spelt. Cheers.
Oh, I love Bougainvillea, we planted it all along our fence when living in Swaziland, each tree a different colour. Thank for sharing this lovely photo, which is going onto my desktop.
Wow. One plant with all that colors and variety of blooms? This is beautiful. Too bad it grows only in the Med. I would give half a right arm to have a yrd full of these.
