... on both sides of the fence! On a recent visit to a local small zoo this mama was taking no prisoners. She reached through her fence and bit our baby! Both her mama and I were stunned since we were not quite to the fence yet. She was patrolling her area, as they were nesting in there. Baby is fine, bruised and confused... still says...DUCK....BITE! Edit: This was probably an hour after the drama, we passed back by the other side on the way. She jumped out of the water back to the fence.

A fabulous closeup! These can be very protective. Like the presentation with the deep green leaves to the side! Great work! (sorry about the bite though.)

Oh my! Baby was bitten and you still got this close? lol Very fine closeup and great color. My daughter was bitten by a Barbary Ape she was feeding bananas. It is quite a shock when you never expected an animal to do that.

Reminds me of when I was just a kid. My Father took me to some duck reserve and of course I wanted to get close. Some big old swan put its wings out and chashed after me. I wasnt bitten, as I ran for cover. I wonder what these birds think. Don't they know we wear boots? Nice close up, and I see the drama in her eyes. They are wild even in captivity.

Well composed, Liz. Nice work on the eye. Yours is the
second swan shot I've seen where the eye was captured
correctly. The other was Jan's. You are in good company.
Resolution a little off. Nice job.

I think I would have bitten here back...Think they would kick me out of the zoo for that? Great close up and beware those eyes. Nicely done, glad Baby is ok.

Beautiful shot under the circumstances Elizabeth. I like the contrast between the bird and the background. It does have the look of a swan possessed. Reminds me of a rooster we had when I was a kid. He chased me and others all the time. He sure was a tough old bird. The noodles were pretty tender though. :)

Nice post.

I definitely have to visit a few zoos this summer. Excellent close up of this swan, Elizabeth. It looks like it knows you are taking it's picture. I like the looks of it's head in front of the leaves. Very nice picture.

What a picture, to bad someone had to get a bite though. It is a very good close-up. I'm glad it was nothing to serious.

I glad to hear the baby is fine, I think the duck is showing remorse and let you get this shot as an apology. I like the way you framed the shot.
