First time to spot the Yellow-crowned Night Herons on the island. Last year I saw only one, that flew out at me. This year, seems like hundreds. What surprised me, they were all sitting posing in a row. Mostly juvenile, I see one more mature.

Maybe it's a nursery or a kindergarten! This shot has to be seen screen size to appreciate it properly. At thumbnail size the birds looked lost in the great mass of grass but at screen size the details in the birds come to the fore and the picture reveals great comp and a very soothing simplicity. A great dt image.

A Rare and Unique Capture E.
I've never seen this many in one setting.
The most I've ever seen in one hatching is Three.
Your correct, only one mature.

Island Birds X? I see only 8. Just joking! This is a one-of-a-kind shot where they are all lined up waiting for the flying coach to show up. The Den Mother is there keeping them more or less together. I love the red eyes on these birds and their cute little speckled backs. Actually, I wonder if they are fishing in that little stream. This is a great shot...and I think you need the expanse of grass above them to give a sense of place...not to mention that the occasional golden stalks in the grass make it feel very alive.

Wow. This is Audubon calendar stuff. There's a meercat sense of community here and a ghostliness of the birds in the grass.

Quite competent in the technical aspects and quite wonderful in the artistic aspects. Beautifully, beautifully done.

What a great shot Elizabeth. I can't find one of them and you have a whole covey. I could jump up and down, rant and rave but that too would be juvenile. Suffice it to say I really like this one with the log and grasses enhancing your herons.

Well, they WERE trying to hide from the photographer it seems, but you got 'em anyways! I love this, it's almost sneakey feeling...I love the log and the grasses, it just makes the whole scene truly artistic. Nice job for sure. Verena

Well, you and EJ have me beat. I saw one the other day, but couldn't get close enough to get a decent shot. Here you have eight great looking young ones. Must be a next near by. Great wildlife shot.
