A juvenile Yellow-crowned Night Heron while doing it's morning preening along the marshy river. I wasn't going to photograph the juvenile YCNH since he was on the post, but he stayed and stared so long I couldn't resist. I've noticed many of the younger birds while still very alert, seem more tolerant than the adults. I don't think he saw me for a long time. The tides have been higher than normal, I wondered if that is why so many of the younger ones were coming out of the marsh to land. A Green Heron flew up near by it before I left the river.

Liz, when viewed at full size, the detail in this heron stands out. It is very well photographed.

Excellent detail and clarity in this juvenile E~. I think it looks good standing on the post. I can't even find a senior citizen one let alone a juvenile.

Still learning the ropes, I suppose, on what is not a threat and what might be. Nice to catch this one.

Maybe the more tolerant juveniles, the one's more likely to get weeded out of the gene pool are the only ones you see, the ones that will survive to breed are still in hiding. :)

It is not "The powerful attack the weak." it is "The fearful attack what they fear."

Its nice to have one stay in one place long enough to get a good picture. They are nervous birds. You got some great detail in this night heron! The lighting is just right as well!
Great shot!
