Very moody and tranquil Mississippi Sound scene, Elizabeth. Love the special, somewhat threathening, atmosphere in it! Captured very well! Regards, Cornelius.
The sky full of clouds and the gray water appear endless, and even though the horizon line is well defined, they seem one and the same. The distance from the camera to the boat is further than we are used to to seeing, the fishing boat still has a ways to go to get past the pier, and the distant landform behind the pier is so far away, haze is obscuring it. All these elements combine to clearly illustrate how a small fishing boat can feel even smaller out on the sea, and how it becomes a floating island of humanity suspended between heaven and earth or, in this case, water. Perhaps too simple for some, this is the kind of photograph that can really make you think the longer you look at it. Excellent. As always.
