A memorial in my mind, because this tree has been sacrificed. :O From a very old folder of photos I never posted due to the similarity of numerous other morning photos from these piers. Across the road to the left of the piers are city hall buildings. All of which took in water during the dreaded hurricane of '05. The past few years they also redesigned the whole river front surrounding the area. At least two of the old cypress trees are no longer proving shade and character along these piers. Luckily the west side of the river bank seems to be intact. Near the building beyong the tree are three spaces and piers to launch boats. I have heard they will no longer be able to use these to launch. From Jan 28,'10.

It is sad to hear trees that have been sacrificed, as they become old friends, plus support lots of life. This is one beautiful looking photography with stunning colours and light.Very nice looking silhouette and stunning reflections in the lake too.

Nice to see a post from you E~. It is a great memorial shot.
The sunrises in your part of the world are beautiful. I guess any sunrise I see from now on is beautiful. At least it should be.
Good info and shot.

Gorgeous vibrant colors, Elizabeth. Well, you'll have a clearer view when the tree is gone. That's what everyone told my sister-in-law when the June tornado took down every tree in her backyard and now she has a view of the valley below. lol Though it wasn't funny to her. If we don't take down the dead or old trees, mother nature certainly will. Good to see you here.

Elizabeth, your narrative doesn't make clear to me why the cypress trees have been gone. Was it because of nature (hurricane) or because redesignation the area. In the first case we have to aceept this but in the latter case it's somewhat a shame to me, although redesignation often is called 'progression'.

Thanks anyhow for a wonderful sunrise post.

Regards, Cornelius.

I wonder how many sunrises this tree witnessed in its lifetime.

It seems a shame that these old trees are lost before their time. I can see why you came here to take photos , a sweet spot.

This one needs to go full screen so you can see the boats waiting to go to work more easily. I find myself shooting trees I love in case they might go away some day myself! This is a keeper...good color, nice and clear focus, sense of time and place conveyed.
