This is my shot for the contest, the lava fields on the big island of hawaii, remain active, and this is the aftermath. However life surprises even mother nature herself, and continues to find ways to flourish. This shot was taken on our trip to the south side of the island, miles of emptiness, in which we would not cross, but our jeep sure didn't mind ;)

Reminds me of the lava beds behind our house where we lived in Northern California. We'd go out and explore them and find lava bubble caves. Fun times.
