The first time I was browsing and saw this I couldn't stand to look at it. Ever since I've seen the movie sphere I've been terrified of jellyfish! I've never even actually seen one for myself, and I've only seen an ocean twice, but these giant jellyfish are scary! However, they are neat to look at when you know it's just a picture and they can't hurt you *wink*. I do like the colorations and depth of the pic!
Not all jellyfish have stinging particles. Judging by the tentacle threads though, these ones probably do. But they were in a big tank, so it's okay :)
It seems to me that what wears us down the most in life aren't the chances we take, but the chances we dont take, the dreams we put aside, the adventures we push away, the questions that are never answered
The Monterey Bay Aquarium is one of my favorite places in the country.
Taking photos in an aquarium is really hard because the light is so low and any flash is going to be reflected by the glass back at the camera, not to mention the people crowding the place, and bumping into you.
Thank you for posting this beautiful image, and I hope it will get more people to visit that wonderful aquarium.
*shudder* I was once stung by a miniature jellyfish on my dierriere (no, I wasn't skinny dipping...I really don't know how it got there). I couldn't sit down for days.
despite my lack of love for jellyfish, this is still a really neat picture. thanks for sharing!
