Do you know that acacia trees are 'thinking trees'?
When animals (giraffes...) come to eat so much branches that the tree will die, the acacias produce a toxin which make the animals sick. Nothing special for now.
But it was noticed that the other acacias of the area, which were not eaten yet, begin to make the same thing, as if they had been prevented by the eaten tree...

Do they seep the toxin from the bark? These trees had a dark, almost crude oil like liquid oozing from the bark in places.

I don't know. This history was told to me by a french guide in the namib desert.
Desert is wonderful to take photos :-)
