My daughter gave me a Daler Rowney set of charcoal pencils for Father's Day. I am delighted to use them. Never experienced charcoal drawing before. This freehand drawing was done using an HB drawing pencil. I am amazed at how dark the lines are. They smudge easily so best have a tissue handy.

Well that's a great Father's Day gift for you, Frank, and I know you'll put them to good use, as is the case here...my daughter has used charcoal pencils on occasion so I know what you mean by the smudging...tho' sometimes that is a good thing as it helps in the shading and shadowing...it's amazing how you can sketch a few shapes, lines, and squiggles and suddenly they are a great drawing...a cute and comical one here.
