Veliky Novgorod is situated on the main highway connecting Moscow and St Petersburg. "Novgorod" is the Russian word for "new city," and "Veliky" means "the great". Neither word describes the town accurately; Novgorod is allegedly the oldest town in Russia and to describe it as great is stretching the imagination somewhat! Novgorod can barely be described as quaint either. It's real claim to fame is this 11th-12th century monastery. Hope you like the view.

I enjoyed your narrative almost as much as I did the photo. Love those sparkling roofs, and I've always equated their shape with an Oriental style. It makes the everyday look exotic!

We don’t make art to show someone what something looks like. All this requires is eyes (or a lens). Art is supposed to have meaning, emotion, power, or magic. Alan & Mario "FourThirds"

Barry - as always, nicely done. I wish the branches tot he right weren't in the way, but the view itself is lovely.

Beautiful view of the old and beloved Christian Russia.
There are also around Moscow the famous Gold Ring with al major and minor orthodox Monasteries.
Russia has a very interesting history and I like especially their mistycal view.
