I wish I could tell all of you that I tracked this big guy down in the wild but I have to be honest. I shot this on an elk ranch. Yep an elk ranch. They work the same as a cattle ranch but they raise elk. The manager of the ranch was kind enough to give me a tour and these are the captures from it. I was in awe of these big guys and the sound of them bugleing sent shivers up my spine. If you have never heard them listen to this. To me that sound rates right up ther with hearing an eagle scream. I hope you all enjoy and thankyou for your comments.

Billy - Excellent capture, Billy! The elk has shed the hair from the antlers. It appears that the rut is ongoing. Did his song wow some of the females in the area? Thad

You were so lucky to get such a shot, I feel sorry for the elk on this ranch, as they become someones meal I suppose. I enjoyed the link as well, very nice all around. Tigs♥ =^..^=

Actually I've seen and heard them myself. I lived in Idaho for 6 months after high school and lived on a place sorta like that. Very cool and outstanding capture Billy! I love it!!!

I sure appreciate this shot BTK.Between the meat and the antlers this has turned into a profitable venture for ranchers. I like the sepia you used to give it the old look.
The velvet is gone and it now has one thing on its mind. A desktop on Caedes. I think it has accomplished that.
Good post.

Hey, Bikky...

Why is everyone on Caedes so darn honest tonight? Rob faked a sky and added a helicopter and you admitted getting this shot at the ranch. I would have experimented a little more with the lighting, particularly the contrast. Then I would have hopped the fence and slapped this little punk and told him to shut up.

Love those golden tones and the detail in his antlers. Sure looks dry there. Are you sure this isn't California, or is Colorado having a drought too?

Think it made this sound probably because it considered you as a friend, Billy.

Very fine photograph, mate!

Hello Billy....A very fine closeup showing so much detail in those magnificent antlers...During my childhood in Scotland I would listen to the sounds of stags echoing around the glens and I have to say at times it was quite scarey....Well done...All the very best to you Billy........Mick.
