This big bull elk is standing near the Elk River. I actually took the shot of the river on the way to the ranch. Thankyou all for your kind comments. They are all appreciated.
You are getting good about moving this Bugler around BTK. That is a good looking scene in the background. I think after the elk moves you need to post the scene. Excellent work you do.
It's the middle of the night here. I can't sleep and thought writing a few comments on Caedes would knock me out cold. After yesterday's experience of dealing with car salesmen and the finance guy, I would almost rather deal with the brain dead representatives at the auto insurance agencies. With that in mind, here comes my sleep deprived comments.
Maybe it's my lack of brain function, but I'm going to be the only person who isn't going to give you a standing ovation on this posting. Great background shot. Great shot of the elk. However, even before I went to full screen I could see that these two scenes came from different shots. I'm not one to talk because Wendell catches me every time I try to drop in a fake sky. Maybe my weakness in combining shots is why I know where to look on your postings for possible weaknesses.
I have learned that it's very difficult to isolate an animal or bird. All of those irregular feathers or fur that's sticking out makes it nearly impossible for me to edit just the creature. The first thing I noticed was the shadows on the elk horns caused by very bright light. Similar shadows don't exist in the landscape. Then I checked out those irregularities in the animal that always exist. You know....fur sticking out and the minor variations that I associate with the outline of an animal. The antlers are smooth enough so that you could make it work but you lost me especially in the hind quarters of the elk. It looks like a cut out placed on another scene. I'm not saying I could do better. I think it's painstakingly monotonous work to pick out every hair to make this shot work.
My eyes are not all that good. When I see a number of comments above from Caedes friends that we share, it makes me think that they're letting me off the hook on my shots. I've bookmarked this shot. I intend to ask each of them if they think they're being helpful or just nice. I know I'm not after "nice". I expect honesty. Either I'm way off base or they're not trying.
The reason why the sun sets in the evening is because it wants to see the sunrise in the morning. I rise in the morning because I want to see them both. RvdB
I like what you did, but will add to what Roger said. The antlers show a couple bleeps on the cutout process, and the elk layer could have benefited with just a touch of gausion blur, as well as some color work to make it more in tune with the background pic. A little mapping on the elk might bring out a little more detail as well. I'm speaking in Gimp terms because that is what I use. It's all about the details, you done good, just take a little more time and get those details. Not preaching, just suggesting, 'cause I like your idea and what you did so far.
