If I may be bold here.. thinking ... if you tamed the left-hand side some?
And/or..
Retained some of the texture, again, in the left-hand side? (Dry colour application, perhaps.. as I like the results in the right-hand side.)

Good to see you're giving your dragon a bath. Be sure to scrub behind the ears and you might be better off using a wire brush. Nicely illustrated and lovely colours.
