Here's a detail of the Austrian Parliament in Vienna, Pallas Athene. In Greek mythology, Athena was the goddess of civilization, specifically wisdom, weaving, and crafts. Athena's wisdom encompasses the technical knowledge employed in weaving, metal-working, but also includes the cunning intelligence (metis) of such figures as Odysseus. The owl and the olive tree are sacred to her. She is accompanied by the goddess of victory, Nike. More infos about the Parliament can be found on my former posted photo Vienna by night - Parliament.

Comments are welcome of course :o)

Fantastically clear shot! You obviously do the right thing tripod-wise! A great shot of the building and Athena. Stunning with the dark background. Thank you so much for posting this series.

Great angle, Chris, and beautifully executed night scene again. You did such a good job with the dof that I can study all the details in this photo. Fascinating statue; mythology was my favorite subject in high school. Thanks for this!

It's all about perspective and perception.

This is, again, a work of art... Perfect night shot. We can't see the whole parlament building, but we don't see wires & cars neither :P... Excelent job. Paul

Beauty is no quality in things themselves. It exists merely in the mind which contemplates them, and each mind perceives a different beauty.

All of the technical aspects have been covered, and I have no constructive suggestions. I like this, obviously and I liked your writeup too. Something hit me and I'm going to follow up on it:
"She is accompanied by the goddess of victory, Nike."
Hmmmm....you know what I'm wondering :)PJ

Perfect shot again, it is so beautifully sharp ! still it must have been a longer exposure time, judging by the flag on top.
Great work !

A very good story to accompany a very nice photo of a very interesting building!
Good post.
Critics? Well maybe, maybe not. It would make a photo like this really stand apart from all the rest when the goddess would stand apart for the building in the back. Either by taking this photo from a different position, so that the black sky contours her heavenly lines, or by limiting the depth of focus, so that the building is blurred apart for the statue.
Anyway, it remains a very good post!

If you can't find the words, you may as well shoot it...

A very clear shot and I really like the perspective. The flag being the only thing out of focus is a little strange. I might have cloned that out, but it's still a great capture.

fantastic Chris! I loved the view that Sabine posted and this one is equally good! I also like the fact you posted this one as a silhouette against the night sky enhancing the beauty of the statue! what a team you and Sabine are!! Patti

ps I am putting this in my favourites - I will try and get to see it myself sometime.
