Dubrovnik is an old city on the Adriatic Sea coast in the extreme south of Croatia. It was based on maritime trade. In the Middle Ages, as the Republic of Ragusa, it became the only eastern Adriatic city-state to rival Venice. Supported by its wealth and skilled diplomacy, the city achieved a remarkable level of development during the 15th and 16th centuries. Dubrovnik was one of the centers of the development of the Croatian language and literature, home to many notable poets, playwrights, painters, mathematicians, physicists and other scholars.

Dubrovnik is nicknamed "Pearl of the Adriatic".

The old town is enclosed by its city walls which can be walked all around. In high season it's impossible to find a parking lot, even at the sites you have to pay for. When we visited Dubrovnik the first time we went 16km south to the next little city and from there we reached Dubrovnik by boat. Travelling time approx. 45 minutes. This photo is from our second visit, when we parked in the new town and took a cab to the old town.

A most perfect shot, well mounted. Using this venue to take the shot was genius.

Yesterday's history. Tomorrow's a mystery. Today's a gift. That's why it's called the present.

okay you did not have to make a frame around it, clever of you to use a naturel frame like this one, like this one a lot great job my friend

The frame helps make the picture here..it gives us a perspective and also makes the history stand out as if you're looking back in time. I like the idea...very creative, and thanks for the info as well

It may be an ancient city but I see a satellite dish, so they are not living in the past. This is such a neat photo with the old window serving as a frame. Including the interesting narrative, you have made an excellent presentation

Wonderful composition on Dubrovnik. I was there as a young sailor about 30 years ago while Tito was still in control. I've always remembered how beautiful this city is. Unfortunately it took damage during the subsequent war though I hear they've built it up again. Compliments on your post Chris

The thing that goes the farthest, towards making life worthwhile, it costs the least and does the most, is just a pleasant smile.
