This fountain shows the relationship between the Danubius (River Danube) and Vindobona (City of Vienna). It has a long history, built between 1864 and 1869, destroyed in 1945, renovated in 1952. Originally there have been ten more statues of formerly Austrian rivers - five left and five right - Inn, Sava, Drava, Tisza, Mura, Salzach, Morava, Raba, Enns and Traun. After the renovation only the allegories of Sava and Tisza were restored. Enns, Mura, Raba, Salzach and Traun now are at the Palace Garden of Wieselburg (Lower Austria), Drava at Greifenburg (Carinthia) and Inn at Wiener Neustadt. Morava is missing. The alcoves have been bricked up.

I love sculptures. I don't know if the color tones are the scultures natural color, but the sepia is most pleasing & fitting for this presentation. Looks like someting one would find in a history book circa 1800's or so. The textures are amazing. Excellent work Chris. Faves!

Thanks for the history too.
