This is The Metropolitan Cathedral of Christ The King, better known as Liverpool's Catholic Cathedral, affectionately known as the Mersey Funnel (It's a pun on the fact that there is a Mersey Tunnel - in fact there's two car tunnels). It was built in the 1960's on the site of the old Liverpool Workhouse.

Great shot Steve. Paddys wigwam. I remember going here when I was small in the 70's on a school trip. I didnt know it was built on the site of the old workhouse, thats interesting. I could be wrong here, but , my dad is a truck driver and we used to go through the tunnel all the time,, and I am sure that the one we used to use had loads of off roads from it. Not the one that we use now, of course that could just be my memory.

Wonderful capture my friend.

I got completely confused - is this a church or a tunnel or perhaps a funnel ...

That sure is an interesting structure. It does look like an upside down funnel. Maybe it was intentional...the prayers of the congregation are funneled up to God. But that would be a complete misunderstanding of where God is, wouldn't it? Oh well. That is a nice picture you have posted, and an interesting narative.

Now I know this as Paddy's Wigwam. But maybe we're not allowed to say that these days!

Good capture of a building that's iconic of a period of my life. Thanks for this Steve.

I also think of it as Paddys Wigwam :)
I helped to build this in 1966! I was amazed when I revisited last year to see there is Restoration Fund, made me feel ancient. Perhaps I ordered the wrong nails!
This is a very good shot of it.
