Some universities in Britain are described as 'Red Brick' Universities. These are the universities that were founded in late Victorian and Edwardian times (a few years either side of 1900)in the major industrial cities such as Liverpool, Manchester and Birmingham. They mostly grew out of the merging of science and engineering based colleges as opposed to Oxford and Cambridge which were 'Classics' based.

The term 'Red Brick' was coined by a Professor from Liverpool University as many of the original buildings of these universities were indeed built of red bricks. Such an example is shown here. This is The Victoria Building at Liverpool University and is described as "The First Red Brick".

You could have titled this: 10 Minutes Later Caruso. What a gorgeous color the bricks are with the light on them. Super textures in this one. Such good craftsmanship. More good information.

Steve - This kind of brick masonry, of the late 1800's, is a lost art. The clock tower roof is quite special as well. A very nice shot!
