Farewell To A Swan

The very cold weather we've been experiencing here in New Brighton has proved fatal for one of the swans on The Model Boating Lake. The lake is very shallow (about knee depth) and it froze very quickly and trapped 17 swans. These were rescued by RSPCA officers and some workmen but not before one swan had died.

How sad Caruso. I imagine it was like losing a friend for many who enjoyed visiting them. You included. Gabi is correct about this making a great tribute.

That's a shame Steve. In Hamburg they take them away from the lake in winter and to another place where the water is warmer (I suppose). Beautiful close up.

Cruel but reality Steve. Those things happen. Think it's easier in a city rather than in the countryside to carry them away from places with severe wint'ry conditions to more safer places.
Thanks for this great close-up.
Regards, Cornelius.

That's a shame about the swan. I bet the freezing weather caused lots of problems this year, not just in the UK, but in the southern part of the US, too. Nice shot, Steve.

Swans are such beautiful birds... I'm sorry to hear one of them didn't make it... although your image, with all its detail and lighting, is a lovely and fitting tribute.

So sad to hear that the cold spell cost the park one of it's swans. They are so lovely and graceful. I am glad that the rest were rescued. Lovely photo.
