It was cold AND SUNNY. There's a technique for shooting directly into the sun. I used to do it successfully with my 35mm Canon twenty years ago, but I have had any success yet finding the correct buttons and knobs on my current digital camera. Just like all of my attempts lately, your shot is completely overexposed. When you figure out how to fix this, let me know.
Hi Brandon, love the rays mate. Going to have to respectfully disagree with Roger (Palral). There are some areas of the strongest sunlight which are entirely white, no colour, no detail, but most of the white area actually has some colour in it, I checked in The Gimp because the shot does not look "completely overexposed" to me. You captured the rays beautifully, better than I've ever done, no lens flare and plenty of colour and detail in the surrounding scenery. It's easy enough in The Gimp, or other free software, to add back just a hint of colour to the completely washed out sun bits. As to the getting up early, way to go, but you can keep that lark for yourself, give me the other end of the day for sure. :)
Mikel.
