The Hubble telescope will soon be destroyed intentionally and relegated to the dustbin of history. Its magnificent images of the wonders of deep space will eventually become quaint and curious relics, having been surpassed by the newer technologies of the day. In the meantime, we can enjoy the spectacle of Hubble, because no one before us has ever been blessed by the glory of the heavens quite this way, and no one will ever again be so idealistically enthralled. From a NASA image with PhotoShop enhancements.

I see there are a lot of people using Hubble to the best effect on here. Nature can be incredible beautiful yet massively destructive at the same time. Thanks camerahound for being one of those helping to share the pictures from this excellent telescope.

All the colors displayed in this image are incredible. I have always envisioned space as dark, dull, black..nothing as gorgeous as this Orion Nebula. Thanks for the work with PS & the time you took to enhance. Into my fav's on my h/d. :))

I hold it true that thoughts are things; They're endowed with bodies, breath and wings: And that we send them forth to fill the world with good results, or ill. That which we call our secret thought speeds forth to earth's remotest spot, leaving it's blessings or it's woes like tracks behind it as it goes. We build our future, thought by thought for good or for ill, yet know it not. Yet so the universe was wrought . Thought is another name for fate. Choose then thy destiny and wait, for Love brings Love and Hate brings Hate. - Henry Van Dyke.

The Hubble will be around at least a decade longer. They have an STS mission scheduled to replace the gyros and add and replace some imaging gear.

You picked a great wide-field view of the trapezium area, one the easiest double-double stars for amateurs to acquire in their smaller telescopes.

Clear skies.
